The Middle Child

Hello everyone!! I'm dreadfully sorry about my long extended absence! First I was sick, then I was getting well, then I found Peter Pan on tape and when I find that I can do nothing till I have listnened to it over and over and over. That is my favorite pleasur book!!!  Anyways, I think that I need a new start. With me absence and all. What do you think about the name for my blog being The Middle Child? I think it fits me! lol, for I am the middle child. But  it would be like a hand pulling down a cowboy hat, but the nails are painted, or something else where it would be middle child!

Please excuse my bad spelling! I'm fat fingering everything today!

Day ... 4? Zzzz

I got up at 5am this morning, and I'm not feeling real good. :( I have a sore trough and my tooth hurts. Mom and I went through a memorial, which I did enjoy, but it's a long way home. I didn't get to spend any time with Carmel or Precious, Memphis or and of the goats, and I really miss not spending time with my Stickas. But she was home waiting for me when I got here! Boy, I really love that cat! <3 P.S. If you need me, don't call me. I UNpurposely washed my phone is the washing machine, and now it won't turn on. My friend told me to put it in rice, because it soaks up the moisture, and so it's soaking right now. I'm tired now. I'm going to bed. Good night.

Day 3: A Busy Future

Hi,

How are you, dear reader? I'm very busy! Tomorrow our wonderful church is going to have their annual fall festival, and there just so happens to be a lot of cooking involved, but my mom and I are going on a trip to Tennessee for my mom's friend's mom's memorial, so only Jess will be here to cook! Dad and Josh will help too some, I'm sure though!

I won't be able to train Carmel for the next few days! :(

You know.. come to think of it.. I think that it's actually 2 days from now that we leave.. yes I believe that's right! So I might be able to work with Carmel tomorrow! And, I might, even be able to post a short thing on here! That sounds awesome!

   I got to gallop now!

Colt Training Day 1 and 2: A Rearing Reaction To Restraint

Hello There!

Today, I was very anxious to go outside and train Carmi in his new halter! Has it really been 2 days since I got my halter? Well, only now, looking through my older posts, I realize that I have not had put any posts on the first day of Carmel Apple's training.. or did I? Hmm.. Oh, well! I'll do a quick over view of the first day! P.S. Today my sister saw "Riding horses is a lot like nuts and bolts. If the rider's nuts, the horse bolts." That made me laugh!

Day one: I wrapped the ten foot lead rope over his hindquarters and put it in the same hand as the leading hand, my right. It worked rather well that way, and Carmel was pretty calm through the whole thing.

Day two: Today when I went out with Carmel he didn't want to walk forward at all, so I started to put the rope around his hindquarters, but hadn't even started to wrap it around again, then he bolted!  He did it again too! But was better after the third bolt! Carmel even reared for a moment as he was backing up as fast as he could! Well, I feel like I'm either walking with him when he wants to walk, dragging him when doesn't want to walk, holding him back when he wants to go, or stopping when he wants to walk. I don't feel like we are moving as a team.. yet! He has only had his halter for 2 whole days! And I am impressed! Good job Carmi! <3

Day 2: Carmel's 1st Halter

Hiya!

My 13th birthday was yesterday, and I got totally awesome gifts! I got a carving knife, a small cross stitch of a hedgehog, paintbrushes, a total art kit, hairbands, headbands, 3 tee shirts from tractor supply, saying, " My heart belongs to a horse," , " Faith, Family, Farm," and, "Live, Love, Ride!" But the best of all that I got was a 10ft lead rope, and.. A colt halter! It works! Carmel is doing great! And it's blue, just like Precious', so they match! I'm working on leading him, and we still need a bit more practice before it makes perfect! But he is really calm! Grandma and mom told me that the lady that talked to them at the store said that an easy way to teach them to learn to stop at pressure was to hook the lead rope on them and let them run. When they step on it, the rope will yank and force their head down, making them stop running. Eventually they will learn to stop at pressure. Then you can lead them.
That sounds really harsh, and no a good idea to me... What do other people think? I wouldn't be so sure it's a good idea.. what if they got hurt??

Day 1: The Glories Of Horsehood!

Hello!

This blog is going to be full of horses! And to start, I shall name my own blessings! Precious is my 8 year old appaloosa mare, who we have had since March 2013.

Precious: We got her right after my very own pony died. :( Cloud was a real old horse, and she was around 38 when she slipped into eternity, and when God gave me a horse in heaven.   Following Cloud's death, we started looking for a horse right away, and God lead us to Precious, a strong willed, thick built, top-o-the-herd, PREGNANT mare! I was so excited I almost forgot to be heartbroken over my first horse's departure from this world. Well, we bought her! Plus, she came tamed to ride, came with a bridle, saddle, and saddle pad, plus we got to keep the foal, they also said if we ever want her bred again, we could simply run her up there and they could keep her with her stallion, a registered pure breed! Long story short, I couldn't ride very well, Precious threw me with a few bucks, and had her foal safely, and to this day is the best mama horse I've ever seen!

Carmel: Carmel was born 8-21-13, and is currently 2 months old and undergoing training from me! I love him so much! We will get him gelded in April next year, so until then, I'm working with a stud colt! Carmi's full name is Carmel Apple. He is light chestnut all over, except a white sock, white blaze, and a dark orange/turning black stripe down his back! He will probably be bigger than his mama when he's grown! P.S. please pray I won't skip an important step in preparing this fine colt into a life teeming with orders, obedience, and friendship with humans, so he will understand how to cooperate correctly!
